Ways to Support Health Care for the Future, Today

The Palo Alto Medical Foundation's Camino Region clinical centers and medical offices in Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Los Gatos and Cupertino provide high-quality health care to a growing percentage of Silicon Valley's men, women and children.

As a not-for-profit organization, the Palo Alto Medical Foundation offers opportunities to support:

  • Providing state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment
  • Extending high-quality health care to the underserved
  • Educating and serving patients with disease
  • Providing new medical technologies
  • Building new facilities

Providing state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment

In 2007, more than 200,000 patients were treated by physicians at 10 clinical sites. Using the most advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies available anywhere, physicians representing primary care, medical and surgical subspecialties, and travel medicine provided service ranked as superior in patient satisfaction by outside organizations.

Extending high-quality health care to the underserved

In 2007, Camino region physicians provided service to:

  • More than 1,000 patients on Medi-Cal
  • Uninsured patients qualifying for charity care
  • RotaCare, a free clinic located in Mountain View
  • Patients of four geriatric specialists, subsidized to meet payment shortfalls
  • Patients with cancer needing nutritional counseling and exercise programs

Educating and serving patients with disease

The new Mountain View Center includes a Health Resource Center staffed by full-time health educators, plus a Conference Center offering classes and programs in areas such as:

  • Prenatal care
  • Diabetes and nutrition
  • Mind-body stress and preventive care
  • Disease management
  • Exercise for Energy
Designed to serve the community, programs include options for men, women and families. Exercise for Energy, a program developed to support women undergoing cancer treatment, is one. While focusing on exercise, meditation and movement therapy, it also gives women the opportunity for peer support and emotional sharing.

Providing new medical technologies

Advanced technology has brought disease diagnosis and treatment into the 21st century. Features include:

  • A cardiac and vascular lab with 3-D imaging
  • Direct digital mammography and breast MRI
  • An all-electronic system designed to support physicians and patients in customizing treatment alternatives using the most recent information

Building new facilities

Based on the success of the state-of-the-art Mountain View Center, which opened in 2007, a new Sunnyvale Center is planned to open in 2010. Along with a health resource center, genetic counseling and offices for physicians, it will include a Cancer Center and Vision Care Center. Like the Mountain View Center, the new Sunnyvale Center will feature the most advanced medical technology available to serve the broadest patient population possible.
